Foundations of Information Retrieval The lecture gives an introduction to Web Information Retrieval with particular emphasis on the algorithms and technologies used in the modern search engines. Content The module covers an introduction to the traditional text IR, including Boolean retrieval, vector space model as well as tolerant retrieval. Afterwards, the technical basics of Web IR are discussed, starting with the Web size estimation and duplicate detection followed by the link analysis and crawling.
Multimedia Retrieval Lecture Tutorials Learning Objectives The automatic analysis and indexing indexing of media data is a prerequisite for an effective search in multimedia data sets.

Multimedia Retrieval Vorlesung Übung Lernziele Die automatische Analyse und Indexierung Erschließung von Mediendaten ist eine Voraussetzung für eine effektive Suche in multimedialen Datenbeständen.
Swarming to rank for information retrieval verfasst von Ernesto Diaz Aviles, Wolfgang Nejdl, Lars Schmidt Thieme Abstract This paper presents an approach to automatically optimize the retrieval quality of ranking functions.
DHTs over peer clusters for distributed information retrieval authored by Odysseas Papapetrou, Wolf Siberski, Wolf Tilo Balke, Wolfgang Nejdl Abstract Distributed Hash Tables DHTs are very efficient for querying based on key lookups, if only a small number of keys has to be registered by each individual peer.
Semi supervised learning for semantic video retrieval verfasst von Ralph Ewerth, Bernd Freisleben Abstract The automatic understanding of audiovisual content for multimedia retrieval is a difficult task, since the meaning respectively the appearance of a certain event or concept is strongly determined by contextual information.
Unambiguous Phase Retrieval in Fiber based Interferometers verfasst von Piotr Roztocki, Benjamin MacLellan, Mehedi Islam, Christian Reimer, Bennet Fischer, Stefania Sciara, Robin Helsten, Yoann Jestin, Alfonso Cino, Sai T.
Publication Details Overview of Touch 2022: Argument Retrieval Argument Retrieval: Extended Abstract authored by Alexander Bondarenko, Maik Fröbe, Johannes Kiesel, Shahbaz Syed, Timon Gurcke, Meriem Beloucif, Alexander Panchenko, Chris Biemann, Benno Stein, Henning Wachsmuth, Martin Potthast, Matthias Hagen Abstract The goal of the Touch lab on argument retrieval is to foster and support the development of technologies for argument mining and argument analysis. In the third edition of Touch , we organize three shared tasks: a argument retrieval for controversial topics, where participants retrieve a gist of arguments from a collection of online debates, b argument retrieval for comparative questions, where participants retrieve argumentative passages from a generic web crawl, and c image retrieval for arguments, where partici...

A Multimodal Approach for Semantic Patent Image Retrieval verfasst von Kader Pustu Iren, Gerrit Bruns, Ralph Ewerth Abstract Patent images such as technical drawings contain valuable information and are frequently used by experts to compare patents. However, current approaches to patent information retrieval are largely focused on textual information. Consequently, we review previous work on patent retrieval with a focus on illustrations in figures.
Interactive Cross language Code Retrieval with Auto Encoders verfasst von Binger Chen, Ziawasch Abedjan Abstract Cross language code retrieval is necessary in many real world scenarios.
Caching for improved retrieval in peer to peer networks verfasst von Wolf Tilo Balke, Wolfgang Nejdl, Wolf Siberski, Uwe Thaden Abstract In modern information systems the dominant retrieval paradigms have shifted from exact matching towards retrieving a list of the most relevant objects.

Overview of Touch 2022 Argument Retrieval verfasst von Alexander Bondarenko, Maik Fröbe, Johannes Kiesel, Shahbaz Syed, Timon Gurcke, Meriem Beloucif, Alexander Panchenko, Chris Biemann, Benno Stein, Henning Wachsmuth, Martin Potthast, Matthias Hagen Abstract This paper is a report on the third year of the Touch lab on argument retrieval hosted at CLEF 2022. With the goal of supporting and promoting the research and development of new technologies for argument mining and argument analysis, we have organized three shared tasks: a argument retrieval for controversial topics, where the task is to find sentences that reflect the gist of arguments from online debates, b argument retrieval for comparative issues, where the task is to find argumentative passages from web documents that help in making a comparative decision, and c im...
