Since December 15th, 2020, Dr. Emadeldeen Hassan is working together with Prof. Dr. Antonio Calà Lesina. The researcher’s main interest lies in the field of Computational Electromagnetics and Optimization. The native Egyptian is fascinated by the interdisciplinary intersections of Electrical Engineering, Physics, Maths, and Computer Science. This fascination also shows in his educational path: Hassan is holding a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Menoufia University in Egypt and a PhD in Computational Science and Engineering from Umeå University in Sweden.
The scientist programmes intelligent algorithms, which will automate the design of optical and electromagnetic devices. His aim is to create optimal devices, which will satisfy optical systems’ needs, whether it be energy, performance, functionality, cost, or manufacturability.
Before coming to Hannover, Hassan was a researcher at the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University in Sweden. There he was part of the research group Design Optimization, doing research on the optimization of electromagnetic devices. Also, Hassan holds a parttime employment as an associate professor at the Department of Applied Physics and Electronics at Umeå University in Sweden.
Germany is not unchartered territory for Hassan. Whilst in Sweden, he was collaborating with different research groups in Germany. And in 2018, he stayed as a visiting scholar for one month at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. But the language of his new home Hannover still sounds unfamiliar. Hassan teaches himself basic German to get around. His favourite places are the Gardens of Herrenhausen and the campus, where he likes exercising outside. Hassan always enjoys a good laugh and can’t wait to learn some German jokes.
