10 Years HOT

10 years of HOT - this stands for ten years of interdisciplinary cooperation and research between institutes, centers and companies of the Leibniz Universität Hannover and the region in order to transfer innovative concepts in optics and photonics - two of the most important key technologies of the 21st century - into  applications. Scientists from physics, mathematics, computer science, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering work together under the roof of the HOT on new research topics whose enormous application potential can only be exploited in the cooperation of and across different disciplines.

Master's Programme Optical Technologies

In addition to the research activities, an international master programme Optical Technologies: Photonics and Laser Technology has been developed, which allows the knowledge gained to be directly incorporated into the training of junior scientists and, thereby, permanently continue the success story of HOT and applied optical technologies in Hannover.

Interface between Science and Industry

Furthermore, the HOT acts as contact for industry and medium-sized companies in questions of optical technologies and, thus, forms an interface between science and industry - in the region and beyond.

The Festive Colloquium

We celebrated this special anniversary with a festive colloquium. In his address, Full-time Vice President of Leibniz Universität Hannover Dr. Christoph Strutz drew a line from the founding of the center to its present status as success stakeholder in optics and photonics in Hannover and the region. Mr. Volker Pape, CEO of Viscom AG and spokesman of the HOT Board of Trustees, who was involved in the center from the beginning, provided further insights into the development of the the HOT and its way towards a nucleus for optics and photonics in Hannover.

On the scientific side, Prof. Dr. Andreas Ostendorf (Vice President for Research at the University of Bochum) and Prof. Dr. Jan G. Korvink (Institute Director IMT at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) presented cutting-edge research activities in optics and photonics.

A official programme was followed by finger food buffet and laboratory tours.

For the next decade, we are strongly motivated and confident that we can make significant contributions to the vital field of optical and photonic technologies in the region and beyond.
