Simulating Small Metallic Nanoparticles in FDTD

Nonlocal Correction to the Drude Model

authored by

Abstract

The classical Drude model fails to accurately predict the optical response of metal particles with sizes less than 10 nm due to nonlocality. A nonlocal correction can be added to the Drude model, and implemented in the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
